Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions travelers ask us most.
What is Travelerset?
Travelerset is an independent travel guidance publication. We publish practical guides on trip planning, travel documents and entry rules, budgets, packing, health and safety, and destinations. Every guide shows its author or team, its publication date and its last update date.
How does Travelerset check its information?
Rules on passports, visas, airport security and health change often, so we check each claim against the official source that sets it, such as a government travel site, a border agency or an airline policy page. We link those sources in the guide and update the guide when the rule changes. Read more on our expertise page.
How long must my passport be valid to travel abroad?
It depends on the destination. Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival or departure date, while others only require validity for the length of your stay. Always check the official entry requirements for your destination before you book. See our guide to the six month passport rule.
Do I need an ETIAS to visit Europe?
Not yet. ETIAS, the EU travel authorization for visa exempt visitors, is not in operation and no applications are being accepted. The EU has said it will announce the start date several months before launch. The only official website is europa.eu/etias, so avoid sites that charge you to apply early.
How much liquid can I take in my carry on bag?
At US airports the TSA 3-1-1 rule applies: containers of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less, all in one quart sized bag, one bag per passenger. Medication, baby formula and breast milk are allowed in larger amounts but must be declared at screening. Read our full liquids rule guide.
Do I really need travel insurance?
For international trips it is strongly recommended. Your home health plan may not cover you abroad, and emergency medical care or evacuation can be very expensive. A good policy covers emergency medical costs, evacuation, trip cancellation and lost baggage. Our travel insurance guide explains what to look for.
What should I do in the weeks before an international trip?
Check your passport validity and entry rules, buy insurance, tell your bank you are traveling, save copies of your documents, check official travel advisories, and confirm any vaccinations you need. Our international trip checklist walks through each step with a timeline.
Does Travelerset accept paid placements?
No. We do not sell rankings or recommendations. If a guide ever contains a sponsored element or affiliate link, it is labeled clearly on the page.
Can I suggest a destination or report an error?
Yes, please do. Use our contact page to suggest a destination or topic, or to tell us about a rule that has changed. Corrections are reviewed by an editor and the guide's update date changes when we fix it.
Is Travelerset hiring?
Yes. We are hiring travel editors and experts, all remote. See the open roles and upload your CV on our careers page.
